Frosty is dead.

People are finally milling about outside and it makes my heart smile! I think we’re all ready to thaw out, put on shorts and flip flops and spend some quality time outside. Most winters don’t bother me so much, but this ones been a little rough.

*Surprisingly my Roos made very good snow boots when taking this photo…

There were times I thought the neighbor’s sad-looking snowman would never finally kick the bucket. Or that I’d never regain those coveted parking spots close to my apartment building that spent the winter piled high with snow. (Why they chose those spots to put the 10 feet of snow is anyone’s guess.) But we are now on the brink of greatness. Frosty is dead and I only have to walk three yards to my apartment. I’ll forget all this excitement at the tail end of August when I’m cursing the heat, but for now, I’m pretty stoked.

With my eyes struggling to adapt to the long-lost sun rays, I’m full speed ahead at making plans for summer and the calendar’s filling up fast. There are so many great things going on in Lincoln! Because I’m so good to you all, I’m going to share a few things. Put them on your calendar NOW so it’s not a valid excuse not to come play with us this summer. :)

April 29th

BONUS DAY! Two cool things for you to do:

For lunch - Lincoln’s Young Professionals Group Annual Event

Come see who wins the Corporate Ovation Award, the YuP&Comer Award, the FOURunderFORTY Awards and the Young Professional Statement Award!  P.S. You can still nominate worthy YPs here. *Watch out! They’re due March 30th.

            For dinner (ish) – Ignite Lincoln – 6 p.m. – Bourbon Theatre

Ignite Lincoln is the beginning of a set of inspiring talks from Lincoln’s greatest minds. Each speaker has just five minutes and twenty slides to speak their mind. Learn a snippet about everything from police technology to couch serving, or hear Firespring’s Jay Wilkinson share “How Silicon Implants Made Bill Gates & Steve Jobs Millionaires.” Alright, you’ve got me hooked.

May 19 - August 25

Downtown Performance Series - Every Wednesday at noon

I love the Performance Series because it gives me a reason to get out of the office for a bit and enjoy my lunch outside with an hour of free music and performance. This Series has been going on for 25 years, and this year is going to be another great one!

June 18-19

THE CRÈME DE LA CRÈME! Celebrate Lincoln International Festival – 11 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.

The apps are in and the food and shopping is going to be fabulous. Check them out here – but the drool on my keyboard speaks for itself. (Our vendors will probably warrant their own blog post in the near future. I never hesitate to talk about food and/or shopping!) Keep an eye out for entertainment updates soon and help us out by volunteering for a short 3-hour shift!

June 25

Updowntowners Golf Classic – 10 a.m. Scramble – Yankee Hill Country Club

Golfing. Food. Prizes. Sunshine. Friends. Networking. ‘Nuff said.

            Sign up here.

July 18-23

2010 Special Olympics USA National Games

Updowntowners and Pershing are producing the Special Olympic Town! The week-long event will feature food vendors, live performances, and opportunities to play games and compete against or with Special Olympics athletes. We could really use your help! Sign up on the Games’ web site at www.2010specialolympics.org, click ‘Be a Volunteer’ and designate ‘Updowntowners’ as your group affiliation and ‘Special Olympics Town’ as your job preference.

August 12-15

Ribfest

A personal favorite of mine because, again, it includes great food!

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list – but I’ll stop now while you’re (maybe) still reading. There are LOTS of great things going on in this summer and I know I’ve missed some. What are some of your favorites?

Take care and go enjoy the sunshine!

Frances

P.S. Don’t forget the Farmer’s Market (every Saturday), First Fridays (On the first Friday of each month), and Jazz in June (Tuesdays in June).  Ok, I’m done. Phew!
