Lincoln Gems
In anticipation for our Membership Committee meeting this afternoon (yes, we meet at Doc’s – that’s my kind of meeting!), I was looking back on all the places Updowntowners has visited in the past few years for Membership Luncheons. We’re really covered a lot of ground.
Having spent almost 25 years in Lincoln, there are a lot of places here I’ve never been to before. Or thought about how they work. Or how they run their business. Or who works there. Or why they like to do what they do. THAT’S the goal of these luncheons.
Now, I’m not saying I haven’t heard of most of these places, but I’m a curious type and I’m always wondering what makes them tick. Luckily, I’ve never had a reason (until I started working for Updowntowners anyway) to get patted down at the State Penitentiary. I kinda wish I had pictures of all 35 of us going through screening. That’d be great blackmail.
In no particular order, here’s a sample of where we’ve been:
Nebraska State Penitentiary
Nebraska State Capitol
Time Warner Cable (green screen!)
TMCO (Total Manufacturing Co. – They made the gazebo at the Sunken Gardens)
Duncan Aviation
Speedway Motors
Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home (Yes, we went to a funeral home. Don’t judge us.)
Memorial Stadium
Halloween Party with a Ghost story teller (Not a storyteller that’s a ghost, but a teller of ghost stories)
Lincoln Children’s Museum
Health Fair
Kidwell
Lincoln Police Department
Lincoln Fire & Rescue
Downtown Living (We’ve been everywhere)
Nebraska Heart Hospital (Still want to schedule viewing of an open heart surgery)
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital (Learned I have to run one mile for every hershey’s kiss I eat. I need to run a LOT)
Lazlo’s (Beer Tour!)
Marcus Theatres (Luckily I didn’t trip over anything)
Ferguson House (Holidays 2009)
Governor’s Mansion (Holidays 2010)
Arena Luncheon (Vote YES! Please.)
Lied Center for Performing Arts
Lincoln Children’s Zoo
Lincoln Journal Star
Haymarket Park
Sheldon Art Gallery
Howell Theatre at UNL
We’re lining up some sweet membership events in the next couple months, but do you have any recommendations? I’d love to hear them. And would give you major props.
Ta ta for now,
Frances
