GO! October Membership Meeting and Community Planning Session
Hey, we’ve now got the details on GO! October meetings — one looking to the historic past, one looking to our future:
Did you know that the Cornhusker hotel and office complex is built on what was until 1925 the site of the First Presbyterian Church? That the cornerstone of St. Mary’s church was laid in 1888 and that it used to be a cathedral? That St. Paul’s downtown has a flat top because of fears that the building could not support both its bells and a pointed steeple?
Join us for the GOLincolnGO membership luncheon Houses of Worship/Homes of History on Thursday, October 28, 2010 as Ed Zimmer, city historic preservation planner, gives us a visual presentation on the many historic houses of worship in the downtown and near-downtown area. Some are still standing, while others only exist now in pictures, but they all form part of the historic fabric of our community. We’ll also hear an update on new projects at St. Paul’s, which made the decision to stay and expand downtown a decade ago.
Our luncheon will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M Street, in the Dining Room on the lower level. Parking is available in the St. Paul garage (enter from 11th Street). Networking and lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., with our program starting at noon. Cost for the event is $12.00 for members and $15.00 for nonmembers.
Please register and pre-pay for the luncheon by October 25th by visiting our website at

Thank you to our event sponsors, BVH Architects and Braeda Fresh Express Café, and to our hosts at St. Paul’s.
Also, please join us on Wednesday, October 27th for our Community Planning Session. The GO! Board of Directors is currently working to revise our strategic plan and is working to restructure the organization for future growth, new event ideas, and community partnerships. We would greatly appreciate your feedback in this process and your assistance in making our organization stronger for the future. Please join us for a Community Planning Session on Wednesday, October 27th from 3-5 p.m. at the Downtown Lincoln Association conference room at 206 S. 13th Street, Suite 101.
Please RSVP for the Community Planning Session to Susan at 434-6900 or sfelton@downtownlincoln.org
