Owner Brian Podwinski will take us on a tour so we can see how the experts do it and of course there will be tasting. As with any GO! event I am sure the evening will include plenty of networking, laughs, and memories.

Good to know we’ve got businesses like that in Lincoln. In touring their large facility, we also saw just...

GO! October Membership Meeting and Community...
Hey, we’ve now got the details on GO! October meetings — one looking to the historic past, one looking to our future:
Did you know that the Cornhusker hotel and office complex is built on what was until 1925 the site of the First Presbyterian Church? That the cornerstone of St. Mary’s church was laid in 1888 and that it used to be a cathedral? That St. Paul’s downtown has a flat top...

Hey, pencil this in on your calendars: The next GOLincolnGO membership luncheon has been set for Thursday, October 28, 2010, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 12th & M Streets. Turns out that many of the first significant buildings in Lincoln were churches or related structures. ...

A time for dancing.
It was another great week at the Downtown Performance Series!
The sunshine stayed out just long enough for an hour-long set by the Cronin Bros. They had great sound and played a lot of crowd favorites, making for one happy group.
The Cronin Bros. had the lunch crowd’s feet tapping. And looking around at the audience, I saw it was:
A time for pattycake.
A time for bubble-blowing.

Place Your Bet!
It was a great night at the races last Friday!
For our most recent social event, we headed out to the Lincoln Race Track for BBQ, drinks and general shenanigans. And we ALWAYS have a good time.
Sadly, I lost fifteen bucks that night. However, it was a good excuse to whip out my country books, so it was well spent. My only regreat is that we didn’t make it out for the cowboy belt buckle...
Rock on!
It’s that time again. The Foundation Gardens are beautiful and it’s time for the beginning of another season of the Downtown Performance Series! Today for the opening week, PANgea, an LPS Steel Drum band performed to a large crowd.
This little guy caught my eye. He was pumping out some mad beats on a green leaf. Rock on little buddy!
Much better than the shenanigans his...

Updowntowners is Now GOLincolnGO!
Hopefully you’ve heard by now that we’ve changed our name!
As a 26-year-old organization, our mission is still the same - to enhance the social, cultural and economic vitality of Downtown Lincoln through the production of special events, our events are the same and our members are still fabulous! This new name represents the energy, vision and spirit that members, volunteers, sponsors and...
Billboards, posters, social media, OH MY!
First off, my apologies for being on the down low the last two weeks. Needless to say, we’ve been busy here. BUT this is no excuse for keeping you, my friends, out of the loop!
Marketing is the buzz word around the office today. With so many events in the coming months, it’s difficult to keep up with it all! In an effort to reach out to a different audience, we’re going to try a couple of...
Evil Jelly Beans and $50,000
Why do they have to put Easter jelly beans in such loud cellophane wrapping? As if I’m not insecure enough about my sugar love, I don’t need the whole office to know when I indulge! Sheesh people. Give a girl a break.
Anyway, it’s not just my sugar high that has me going today. Oh no, my friends. It’s something much more important and way more sweet of a deal. Last month, we submitted...

I'm popular because of pasta.
This week, we visited the Downtown Police Station for a Membership Luncheon, and I’m happy to report that I’d never been there before! After taking my two giant coolers of soda through security, setting the alarm off and making my way downstairs to the inner bowels of the police station, we made it to the briefing room and were ready to go. Lunch was a buffet of shredded pork and chicken,...
Frosty is dead.
People are finally milling about outside and it makes my heart smile! I think we’re all ready to thaw out, put on shorts and flip flops and spend some quality time outside. Most winters don’t bother me so much, but this ones been a little rough.
*Surprisingly my Roos made very good snow boots when taking this photo…
There were times I thought the neighbor’s sad-looking snowman would...

I LOVE St. Patty’s Day.
“May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.”
Apparently, twelve percent of us lie each year about being Irish. That’s not altogether shocking – as we’re a pretty cool group. (Assuming my parents didn’t lie to me, I’m a pale-skinned, card-carrying member of the Irish clan. Don’t let the glaringly Dutch last name fool you.) But why is it...
Lincoln Gems
In anticipation for our Membership Committee meeting this afternoon (yes, we meet at Doc’s – that’s my kind of meeting!), I was looking back on all the places Updowntowners has visited in the past few years for Membership Luncheons. We’re really covered a lot of ground.
Having spent almost 25 years in Lincoln, there are a lot of places here I’ve never been to before. Or thought about how they...
No more salad for me.
Lydya, one of our African food vendors for Celebrate Lincoln just stopped by the office to drop off her application for this year’s festival. It’s always such a joy to see her.
Lydya is a Kenya native, but has been living in Nebraska since June 2007. Besides being a *phenomenal* cook, Lydya also has a 2-year-old running around. She is attending classes to become a medical assistant and must be...
Two Years and Counting!
In honor of my anniversary at Updowntowners, I’m taking a moment to think back over the last two years.
It was quite a switch coming from a job where I photoshopped turtle poo out of hundreds and hundreds of photographs to a place where it takes me at least five pages to describe what it is I do. However, the two do have their similarities. Finding a month-old McDonald’s Fruit ‘n Yogurt parfait...

“I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody.” —Lily Tomlin
We had our first meeting last night to discuss volunteer recruitment and training for Celebrate Lincoln. I’m always amazed at how much volunteer manpower is devoted to the festival and the organization. Speaking from personal experience, I can certainly understand the...
PC Load Letter?!
We’re having the Great Copier War of 2010 over here at the office and I’m taking this time to reflect, regroup and (hopefully) rekindle my somewhat tumultuous relationship with the Paper-Eating Beast. This all depends on what time the tech support arrives to fix the darn thing after it made machine gunning sounds that had the whole office up in arms. While today will surely go down in copier ...
This is going to be fun.
We all know that Updowntowners are a special breed – willing to learn (surprising useful) tasks like how to construct a sink on a Downtown street or craft a 15-foot float from stuff you found at Home Depot. I’ve even become a licensed Food Manager, even though I have no desire to ever work in food service. Ever. I’m reminded of this special credential of mine every time I visit a sushi restaurant...
“Always make your future brighter than your past”
There’s no debate that Updowntowners has had a bright past. The grassroots history of the organization that rose up more than 25 years ago was a direct result of passionate community-minded volunteers. Not only did they produce great events, they had a blast doing it. We carry on this mindset today.
Updowntowners are progressive thinkers. They haven’t let obstacles stand in the way of their...
